Members of the North Camden Chorus have been rehearsing this since term started after Christmas and now the concert is happening very soon - on Saturday 16th March from 7.30pm at St Mary Brookfield Church, Dartmouth Park Hill, NW5 1SL. The music is very rousing and includes the famous "Hallelujah Chorus". We will be joined on the night by professional soloists and orchestral players.

For full details here is a link to the poster: https://ncchorus.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/spring24-concert-poster-a4.pdf.

Wine and nibbles (donated by choir members) will be available afterwards! Tickets will be cash-only on the day - £15 - but are available in advance online at: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/north-camden-chorus-spring-concert-tickets-843992613627

Dear Friends
Friends of Highgate Library (FOHL) is going strong, offering performances in the school next door, as the Library itself is undergoing refurbishment.  For me, next Tuesday's event is particularly interesting, as it's my brother co-presenting a performance of his poems, inspired by famous paintings:

Joe Treasure is the author of three novels. "Out of the Frame" is Joe’s first collection of poems. Art from six centuries brought dramatically to life through the imagined voices of the artists, their models and the figures they represent. Hear the thoughts of a trio of disdainful goddesses, a couple of WWI veterans and a woman hurrying to meet her lover in 19th century Paris. Zimmy Ryan trained at LAMDA and worked as an actor before becoming a
psychotherapist.

There is no need to register – just arrive at 7pm for 7.15-9pm at Brookfield Primary School, 101 Croftdown Road London, NW5 1HB. Below we link to the FOHL event listing and a poster with more details.
Looking forward

Dear Friends
It was lovely to meet an old friend from Highgate Newtown Community Centre at the North Camden Chorus concert last Saturday - at least one person got the message in time….

Sadly "On Bouge" is holding its last session tomorrow Friday 8th December in the basement of the Baptist Church, 84 Heath Street, NW3 1DN. The nearest Tube Station is Hampstead - turn right out of the station and it's a 5 minute walk up the hill. Doors open 7.15pm.
Organisers Caroline and Chris Shaw (Duo Mistral) will be joined by regular musicians John Offord, Dave Chatterley and Peter Kanssen, Deux Sans Frontières and The Famous Five Fiddlers. Their old friend David Heath is also turning up to play. and there will be CAKE and BUBBLY to toast the wonderful 30 years of On Bouge. Please bring booze and Christmas snacks to share. No need to book - this time there will be a bucket to put in whatever contribution you want to make!
Chris adds: There are other clubs that do French dance, but we have concentrated more on traditional dances as they are done in their pays, whether Bretagne or Auvergne, Gascogne or Béarn ou n'importe où en France. The aim has been to dance the dances correctly but always with fun. They hope in the future to organise occasional weekend events. To keep in touch please email: Chris@gigcb.com.

Tamar's in-person and zoom Pilates sessions are still going strong - for details see: https://hnca.org.uk/wp/classes/pilates-thursdays-9-30am/. At today's zoom session, one of the members, Nicole, told us that her choir "Eclectic Voices" are holding a Bach Concert from 5pm on Sunday 10th December at the Union Chapel, 198 Compton Terrace, London N1 2UN, near Highbury & Islington station. For full details and booking form see: https://eclecticvoices.org.uk.

Let us know of other events you would like publicised.
Best wishes to all

Dear Friends
I hope you are OK and surviving this cold spring weather. I just remembered that I had forgotten to update the website, and managed to do some of that today.  I've tweaked some details and added two new organisations to the Events Page: https://hnca.org.uk/wp/events/

Friends of Highgate Library has one of their very interesting lectures this Thursday 9th March, which you can join in person or online. The next one, with Catharine Wells, is about the  Highgate Pink Plaques Project: Honouring Women from Angela Burdett-Coutts to Stella Gibbons: https://www.fohl.org.uk/events/.

One interesting addition to our Events page is On Bouge, a long-standing French Folk Dance Club, which has its monthly meeting this Friday 10th March - in the basement of the Heath Street Baptist Club.  If you book in advance it's only £10, but you can show up at the door and pay £12 - see https://onbouge.org and https://www.wegottickets.com/onbouge.

North Camden Chorus holds term-time rehearsals on Tuesdays from 7.30pm to 9.15pm at William Ellis School, Highgate Road, London, NW5 1RN, for their end-of-term concerts - the next one, at St Mary Brookfield Church, is coming up on Saturday 25th March from 7.30pm.  The choir will be performing: KARL JENKINS – THE ARMED MAN - an anti-war piece written for the Millennium celebrations and dedicated to victims of the Kosovo crisis, MOZART'S AVE VERUM - composed in the final year of his life to celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi, and FAURÉ's CANTIQUE DE JEAN RACINE.  Tickets cost £15 at the door, but only £12 if booked in advance - see https://ncchorus.org.uk/spring-concert-saturday-25-march/.

If you have any other information which may be of interest to our friends, do let us know. Meanwhile that's it for now.
Best wishes to all
